Take Note
First Night volunteers sought
UCSC
will once again be the official volunteer sponsor of First Night Santa Cruz, voted
the "best community celebration" in Santa Cruz County. Six hundred volunteers
are needed for a variety of tasks from set-up to site assistant. For a three- to
four-hour commitment, volunteers receive a blinking admission button. Area and site
manangers and other volunteers who work more than eight hours on the day of the event
will also receive a "Friends of First Night" shirt and an invitation to

Indian dance performance to benefit cyclone victims
On Saturday, December 2, Laboni, Shibani and Shalini of
San Diego, known as the Patnaik Sisters, will present a show of Odissi classical
dance to benefit the victims of a super cyclone in Orissa, India. The performance
will take place at Porter College Dining Hall at 7 p.m. The mother of the daughters,
Gopa Patnaik, and their guru, Manoranjan Pradhan from India, will also appear as
guest artists. They will be accompanied by a full ensemble of eminent musicians from

Regents' Professors and Lecturers
The Committee on Regents' Professors and Lecturers is soliciting
nominations for 2001-02. The program brings distinguished men and women, ordinarily
from nonacademic careers, to the university for an academic quarter or less. Nominations
should originate from academic units and be reviewed by the appropriate divisional
dean prior to submission to the committee. The deadline for nominations is November

Workshop offers help in 'Uncluttering Your Desk'
Does your desk look like a disaster zone? Tired of searching for that important
document? This workshop, titled Uncluttering Your Desk," will teach you how
to deal with paper piles, mail, filing systems, and paper-retention issues. Find
out how to streamline your work day with hands-on strategies and techniques for managing
paper flow and clutter.

New location for Social Sciences Dean's Office
The Social Sciences Dean's Office (117 SS 1) has moved to
2101 College Nine Apartments, and the Social Sciences Staff Human Resources/Payroll
Services has moved to 2104 Building 2, College Nine Apartments. The Social Sciences
Service Center will be moving at the end of November. There will be no change in
e-mail addresses or phone extensions and the disruption to office services should
be minimal.
