February 14, 2000 Accolades Photo: Sarah Rabkin Charles Atkinson Charles Atkinson, lecturer in the Writing Program, has received a number of national awards for his poetry in the last several months. He has won this Year's Paumanok Poetry Award ($1,000) from SUNY Farmingdale and will be the featured writer in its Visiting Writer's Program. His poem, "Reading the River," was awarded The Comstock Review Prize for 1999 ($1,000). He also received a residency fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center ($1,000), an award matched by Porter College, the Literature Department, and the Writing Program.
