February 14, 2000 Take Note Dean Kliger to give Faculty Research Lecture The UCSC Academic Senate invites the campus community to the 34th annual Faculty Research Lecture to be given by David S. Kliger, professor of chemistry and biochemistry and dean of the Natural Sciences Division. He will speak on the topic "Making Light Work of Biology: Using Lasers to Understand Biomolecules." Balancing work and personal life Staff HR has teamed up with the campus Employee Assistance Program provider to offer a series of four seminars on work-life balance. The first seminar, titled "Balancing Work and Personal Life," will take place on Thursday, February 17, at the Merrill College Baobob Lounge. There will be two sessions: the first from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. and the second from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and participants are encouraged to bring lunch. Skippy Triathlon The tenth annual Skippy Triathlon will be held on Saturday, March 4, at 8 a.m. at the main pool. The race includes a 1,000-yard pool swim, six-mile mountain bike ride, and a five-mile run. The cost is $15/person or $35/team. Application deadline extended for EAP associate director The Education Abroad Program (EAP) is seeking an associate director for Academic Affairs (ADAA) for the academic years 2000-01 and 2001-02 and beginning July 1. Interested applicants should be aware that residency in Santa Barbara is not required for this position, although travel to UOEAP, UC campuses, and abroad will be necessary. Election workers needed Santa Cruz County needs workers to serve on election day, Tuesday, March 7. In order to qualify, you must be able to work from approximately 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., be a registered voter in Santa Cruz County, and be able to read and write English. There are two types of positions: inspector (requires a 1 and 1/2-day training class) and clerk (training class highly recommended). The positions are basically volunteer, but the county pays a stipend of $60 for clerks and $80 for inspectors. Workers may sign up anytime before election day.
