Lisa Sloan, professor of Earth sciences, has been appointed associate dean for the Graduate Division.
Sloan came to UCSC in 1992 as a research scientist with the Institute of Marine Sciences and lecturer for the Department of Earth Sciences. She was appointed as an assistant professor in July 1995 and became a full professor in July 2003. Her research emphasis is in the area of paleoclimate and future climate change. In addition to continuous National Science Foundation operating-grant funding, in 2002 she was awarded a major equipment grant for her studies in regional climate control.
Sloan received her Ph.D. in geosciences in 1990 from Pennsylvania State University. Before coming to UCSC, she was a postdoctoral research fellow and lecturer for the Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences Department and Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Michigan.
