Stephen Thorsett named associate dean of physical and biological sciences

Stephen Thorsett, professor and chair of astronomy and astrophysics,
has been appointed to the position of associate dean for programs in
the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences. His responsibilities
will include providing divisional leadership on curricular issues, working
with representatives from each department to ensure that courses are
being taught as effectively and efficiently as possible, that service
courses are meeting students' needs, and the curriculum across the division
is coordinated appropriately. Thorsett will also serve as acting dean
in the absence of dean David Kliger, represent the division at various
functions and occasional speaking engagements, and participate in addressing
programmatic issues that may arise.
Thorsett succeeds Russel Flegal, professor of environmental toxicology,
who served as associate dean for the past several years and will be on
sabatical leave during 2004-05.
