Robert M. Becker

Robert M. Becker, an associate specialist in the Earth Sciences Department for the past ten months, died in a car accident in December while traveling outside the Santa Cruz area. He was 53. Becker managed the Stable Isotope Laboratory, used by faculty, researchers, and students in the Departments of Earth Sciences and Ocean Sciences and in the Institute of Marine Sciences. Becker's ex-wife and two sons, Cody and Colton, live in Sacramento. He is also survived by his mother, a sister, and a brother. A memorial service was held in Sacramento on January 3.

A memorial fund has been set up to honor Bob's life and work at UC Santa Cruz. The Becker Fund will support student research and training in the university's Stable Isotope Laboratory.
