Rosa-Linda Fregoso
Professor, Latin American and Latino Studies

Rosa-Linda Fregoso joins the faculty from UC Davis, where she was a professor in the Women and Gender Studies Department.

For the past decade, Fregoso's research has focused on independent cinema and Chicanas and Chicanos in film. More recently, her interests have turned to feminism, gender, transnationalism, and the movement in Mexico to redefine women's rights as human rights.

Fregoso earned her Ph.D. in comparative studies from UC San Diego and her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas, Austin.

Assistant Professor, Computer Engineering

Luca de Alfaro's research interests include software engineering, and in particular the component-based design of embedded software; modeling and analysis of software and hardware systems; and concurrency theory, game theory, and automata theory.

De Alfaro received B.S. and doctorate degrees from the Politecnico di Torino in Italy, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from Stanford University. Before joining the UCSC faculty, he was an assistant research engineer at UC Berkeley.
