Judy Yung of American studies contributed her expertise to an article in the San Francisco Examiner about Asian immigration and the Angel Island immigration station.

Professor emeritus of biology John Pearse was quoted in an article about changes in tide-pool life in the Los Angeles Times.

National Public Radio's All Things Considered contacted sociologist Dane Archer during research on cultural differences in food preferences. The story stemmed from a lawsuit charging that McDonald's sprayed their French fries with "meat essence," a violation of certain cultural and religious prohibitions on eating beef products.

Music Recital Hall manager Dave Morrison was interviewed for an article on the Music Center in the web publication Santa Cruz Guide.

Research by graduate student Jason Gedamke and professor of ecology and evolutionary biology Daniel Costa on the sounds made by dwarf minke whales was featured on KSCO Radio, KSBW TV, and in National Geographic magazine. Gedamke also fielded calls from reporters in Canada and Australia.

Efforts by Dilip Basu, associate professor of history, to preserve the work of the great Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray were noted in the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
