urged to take active role in helping world
The
work of Brewster Smith, a professor emeritus of psychology at UCSC, informed
the Supreme Court’s landmark desegregation ruling in the Brown
v. Board of Education case 60 years ago. Today, Smith laments the
fact that professional pressures and research incentives discourage scholars
from engaging in action-oriented work that contributes to human betterment.
