Chancellor Denton celebrates faculty and alumni achievements
In her second audio broadcast, Chancellor Denice Denton congratulated the recently elected fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and National Academy of Sciences.
“These are significant honors that underscore the distinguished research and scholarship at UCSC,” she said.
Denton’s message is available for immediate listening or for download at http://podcasts.ucsc.edu.
Denton noted that the addition of Harry Berger Jr., David Haussler and Harold Widom boosts the number of UCSC faculty on the American Academy of Arts and Sciences to 24. UCSC now has 13 members of the National Academy of Sciences with the elections of David Haussler and Stan Woolsey.
The chancellor also noted that Wentai Liu, professor of engineering, received the 2006 outstanding Alumnus Award from Taiwan National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan.
And she congratulated UCSC alumna Dana Priest for her Pulitzer Prize.
“These honors are great achievements for the individuals and underscore the excellence of our research and educational programs at UC Santa Cruz,’’ Denton said.
