Astrophysicists and cosmologists harness new NASA supercomputer for research

UCSC scientists have been using the powerful new Columbia supercomputer at the NASA Ames Research Center to run simulations of complex phenomena such as supernova explosions, gamma-ray bursts, and dark matter halos. Alumna's short story collection draws rave reviews

Alumna Merrill Feitell's debut collection of short stories, Here Beneath Low-flying Planes, has been getting rave reviews. Described as "rueful, bittersweet, funny, written with tenderness and bite,” the collection also received the 2004 Iowa Short Fiction Award. Feitell is now working on her first novel, to be based in Santa Cruz. [More]
