Surprising features of mysterious blasts from Earth revealed

New satellite observations of terrestrial gamma-ray flashes have revealed surprising features of mysterious blasts from Earth. "The energies we see are as high as those of gamma rays emitted from black holes and neutron stars," said David Smith, an assistant professor of physics at UCSC and first author of findings reported in Science.
