UCSC efforts to help victims of the South Asian tsunami
and their families are being coordinated
by a committee formed last week by Acting Chancellor Martin M. Chemers.
The Earth Sciences Department is inviting the campus community to learn
more at a talk
on Wednesday featuring tsunami expert Steven Ward and seismologists

thought they had any money, said a family friend. But the late Federico
and Rena Perlino, who operated a chicken-processing plant in Santa Cruz,
bequeathed nearly $420,000 for UCSC graduate students in psychology working
