Campus painters brave wind, wildlife on island
Año Nuevo Island, part of the Año Nuevo State Reserve, is normally off-limits to anyone but scientists studying its abundant wildlife. An exception was made, though, for a hardy trio of UCSC painters. The crew donned wetsuits to reach the site, then contended with seals, sea lions and dive-bombing gulls to paint the Foghorn Building, used by researchers. Sixty gallons of heavy-duty paint was applied to the structure, which hadn't been painted in 19 years. More
