painters brave wind, wildlife on island
Año Nuevo Island, part of the Año Nuevo State
Reserve, is normally off-limits to anyone but scientists studying its
abundant wildlife. An exception was made, though, for a hardy trio of
UCSC painters. The crew donned wetsuits to reach the site, then contended
with seals, sea lions and dive-bombing gulls to paint the Foghorn Building,
used by researchers. Sixty gallons of heavy-duty paint was applied to
the structure, which hadn't been painted in 19 years. More
CURRENTS ONLINE is produced every two weeks during the summer.
The next issue will be posted on Monday, July 21. |
