Special Group Invitation for Staff & Faculty & Families

July 30 @ 8 p.m. in the Festival Glen The Taming of the Shrew, by William Shakespeare. Directed by Tim Ocel

One of Shakespeare's most popular comedies, is also one of his most surprising. Its sexual politics may appear antediluvian, but somehow Kate and Petruchio come across as the most levelheaded lovers in Shakespeare. It's twelve years since Danny Scheie's production delighted audiences in the Glen.

August 6 at 8 p.m., Festival Glen, The Tamer Tamed, by John Fletcher. Directed by Danny Scheie.

Fletcher (Shakespeare's contemporary) knew a hit when he saw one so he borrowed Shakespeare's story and turned it on its head. In The Tamer Tamed (1611) Petruchio, now ten years older and a widower, marries Maria. And she--to quote the ad--thinks different. All the men in the play (and the audience) are in for a surprise. The battle of the sexes, Round Two.

August 13 at 8 p.m., Theater Arts Mainstage, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, by Edward Albee. Directed by Michael Donald Edwards.

Round Three: one of the greatest American plays of the twentieth century – Albee's black comedy Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Along with Nick and Honey, you are invited to George and Martha's toxic after-dinner party in the Performing Arts Mainstage.

Playgoers are encouraged to bring blankets, cushions, or low-back and short legged beach chairs for use in the Festival Glen. A limited number of beach chairs are available for rent for $2 each. Green Chairs (reserved for donors and subscribers) unreserved seats will be made available @ $2 each. The Festival Glen opens one hour before the play begins. Bundle up for the evening performances. You are welcome to bring a picnic or a food concession is also available. Please consult the Shakespeare brochure for "Patrons with Special Needs" or call (831) 459-2159.
