William Atwood
Adjunct Professor of Physics
William Atwood studies particle physics and astrophysics. He is also
interested in violin making and the physics of violins. Atwood earned
a B.S. in physics from the California Institute of Technology and a Ph.D.
in experimental high energy particle physics from Stanford University.
Before joining the UCSC faculty, he was a researcher at the Stanford Linear
Accelerator Center.

Gregory Laughlin
Assistant Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics
Gregory Laughlin's research interests include extrasolar planets (planets
outside our own solar system), numerical astrophysics, and astrophysical
phenomena of the extremely distant future. Laughlin earned a B.S. degree
in physics from the University of Illinois and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees
in astronomy from UCSC. Before joining the UCSC faculty, he was a space
scientist at NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field.
