Gift from alumnus helps launch environmental research institute

Photo of EarthA new environmental research institute at UCSC has been established with the help of a gift of $500,000 from alumnus Gordon Ringold and his wife, Tanya Zarucki. The STEPS Institute for Innovation in Environmental Research is designed to encourage an interdisciplinary approach that integrates science, technology, engineering, policy, and society (the "STEPS" approach) in studying and solving environmental issues around the globe. The donation is the largest outright gift the campus has ever received from an alumnus. (More)
