The Olympic torch came through Santa Cruz County for the first time ever
on Friday, and UCSC staffer Trish Virgadamo held it proudly as she prepared for her
run. Wearing the official torchbearer's uniform, Virgadamo, a cancer survivor who
had not run since receiving radiation treatments, said she was running on adrenaline
as she sprinted through her Olympic stint. Virgadamo was nominated for the Olympic
honor by her daughter, Elizabeth Conerly, and well-wishers turned out to cheer her
on early Friday morning. More |
