Making the News

An article in the New York Times about the latest developments in particle physics included the comments of physics professor Howard Haber.

Manuel Pastor's second career as an op-ed writer is gathering steam with the recent publication of two new pieces. He wrote "Economy Stuck on Bridge Between Rich, Poor," for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and "Put LAX Expansion in a Holding Pattern Pending Further Research," for the Los Angeles Times.

Brian Walton, coordinator of the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group, was quoted in a story in the Orange County Register about a Coastal Commission decision regarding a proposed development project near southern California's Bolsa Chica wetlands. Walton was one of three biologists assigned to study the controversial proposal for the state.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel ran a story about a project led by John Pearse, professor emeritus of biology, who is getting high school students involved in monitoring tide-pool life on the shores of Monterey Bay.

Campus veterinarian Dave Casper performed a necropsy on a dead humpback whale that washed ashore near Moss Landing and was quoted in a story about the whale carcass in the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
