Recreation classes have openings

Astronomy Workshop: Stars, Moons, Myths & Lore
Tuesday, October 24, 7 - 11 p.m.
Bay Tree Conference Center Room D. Cost: $15.
Join instructor Joe Jordan for an evening of stargazing and learn everything you want to know about astronomy and space. Constellation mythology and lore from many cultures and ages will also be featured. The wonders of the night sky, the basics of observational astronomy, "cosmic ecology," and information on resources and equipment are covered first at an indoor lecture-discussion. Then the class will hike to upper campus to view constellations, planets, galaxies, and nebulae (weather permitting). Bring binoculars (if you have them), and warm, layered clothing.

Virtues of Veggies: Vegan Cooking
Thursday, October 26, 5 - 8 p.m.
Women's Center Kitchen. Cost: $25.
Enjoy an evening of preparing recipes from around the world with instructor Radha Vignola. With all organic vegan ingredients, cook and eat Japanese Spring Rolls with Sweet Sticky Sauce, French Fried Yams dipped in Spicy Peanut Sauce, Tempeh NeatLoaf, All Raw Almond Pate served with Nori and Greens, and Blueberry Muffins. Includes discussion of the benefits of eating such nutritious foods.

"Shodo" Japanese Calligraphy
Thursday, October 26, 6:15 p.m.-9:15 p.m.
Bay Tree Conference Center Room D. Cost: $15.
Learn the basic fundamentals of Shodo, Japanese calligraphy, using traditional ink and brush. Shodo is a traditional art that is practiced by common people as well as Zen and Shinto priests, martial artists, and other types of artists. Shodo teaches you how to meditate and express your inner strength in your art and life. In this workshop, you will start with the meditation of making ink, then continue on to learn basic strokes using a calligraphy brush. Instructor Yoshihito Shibata studied at a Zen temple and went to a school for calligraphy for 15 years.

How To Run a Meeting: So it Doesn't Run You
Thursday, October 26, 6:30 - 9 p.m.
Location: Bay Tree Conference Center Room A. Cost: $15.
Do meetings waste your time? Would you like to make meetings more fun, creative, and productive all at the same time? Meetings can be run smoothly and efficiently if everyone feels heard and validated. This workshop, combining the tools of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) with consensus decision making, will help you in creating agendas, decision making, guiding groups through controversy, and incorporating diverse opinions. Instructor Christine King is a certified trainer with the international Center for Nonviolent Communication and holds a graduate degree from the Graduate Institute of International Studies.
