Journalist presenting 'Dispatches from Iraq' Oct. 19

Journalist Dahr Jamail will give a slide show presentation titled “Dispatches from Iraq” on Wednesday, October 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the UCSC Music Recital Hall.

Opening music will be provided by the Aza Trio. Admission is free to the public, but donations to provide medical supplies for Iraqis will be accepted.

A special correspondent for Flashpoints, Jamail reports for the BBC, Democracy Now, and numerous other stations around the globe. He has spent eight months of the past two years in occupied Iraq as one of only a few independent American journalists in the country. His dispatches were soon recognized as an important media resource, and he is now writing for such outlets as the Inter Press Service and The New Standard. Jamail’s reports have also been published in The Nation, the Sunday Herald, and Islam Online. His articles have been translated into Polish, German, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese, Indonesian, French, Chinese, and Arabic.
