Wentai Liu honored by National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan

Wentai Liu, professor of electrical engineering, has received the 2006 Outstanding Alumnus Award from Taiwan National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. Liu received the award at a ceremony on April 8.

Liu is campus director of the Center for Biomimetic MicroElectronic Systems and leads UCSC's participation in a major project for the development of an artificial retina. His research interests include biomimetic microsystems, molecular electronics, microelectronics sensor design, and computer vision and image processing.

Liu received a B.S. in electrical engineering from National Chiao Tung University, an M.S. in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University, and a Ph.D. in computer engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Before joining the UCSC faculty in 2003, he was the Alcoa Chair Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University.
