Author to give talk on advertising's image
of women
Author Jean Kilbourne
will give a talk titled "The Naked Truth: Advertising's
Image of Women" on April 4 at 7 p.m. at the Merrill Cultural
Center.

Kilbourne is internationally recognized for her pioneering
work on alcohol and tobacco advertising and the image of women
in advertising. In this interactive presentation, she will explore
the cumulative impact of advertising on individual attitudes,
values, and behavior and on society as a whole. Kilbourne's
book Can't Buy My Love: How Advertising Changes the Way We
Think and Feel (Free Press, 2000) won the Distinguished
Publication Award from the Association for Women in Psychology
in 2000. She is also known for her award-winning documentaries
Killing Us Softly, Slim Hopes, and Calling the Shots.
There will be a reception with light refreshments at 6:30
p.m., with the program at 7 p.m., and an author book signing
at 8:30 p.m.
