Symposium to honor new University Librarian
Virginia Steel
The Future of the University Library--a symposium
to honor Virginia Steel, UCSC's new University Librarian--will
take place on Thursday, March 9, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the
Current Periodicals Room at the Science & Engineering Library.
The event is co-hosted by the Academic Senate and the administration.
Guest speaker and library design expert Geoffrey Freeman, principal
of Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbott Architects, Boston,
will speak on the topic Academic Libraries for the 21st
Century: Challenges and Opportunities. Campus Provost and EVC David S. Kliger and professor Faye J. Crosby, chair of the Academic Senate, will provide opening remarks.
The symposium is open to the academic community and library
supporters and will be followed by a reception.
