Dance classes offered by Recreation Department
You can still sign up for several dance courses that are being
offered by the Recreation Department.
West African Traditional Dance
Mondays, Jan. 23 - Mar. 6 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Multipurpose
Room, East Fieldhouse
Instructor Mandjou Kone will teach traditional dances of her
native land, accompanied on the drums by Mandjou's brother Salif
Kone and other drummers. Each class will end with traditional
songs and chants. Dress in comfortable clothing. Cost is $ 35
for UCSC students and Wellness Card holders.

Ballroom Dance
Tuesdays, Jan. 17 - Feb. 21 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Multipurpose
Room, East Fieldhouse
Instructor David Smith will introduce some of the most fun and
useful ballroom dances, including triple-step East Coast swing,
cha-cha, or rumba, ballroom samba, and American tango. Return
students are welcome. Singles and couples are welcome. There
will be frequent rotations of partners, in which everyone is
urged to participate. Wear
comfortable clothing and footwear that is lightweight and well-connected
to your foot. No previous experience necessary. Cost is $15
for UCSC students and Wellness Card holders.
Belly Dance
Tuesdays, Jan. 17 - Feb. 21 from 4 - 5:30 p.m. in the Activity
Room, East Fieldhouse
Instructor Caroleena Epstein teaches the ancient art of this
Middle Eastern dance, focussing on posture, technique, and simple
choreography. Men and women and all levels are welcome. Cost
is $35 for UCSC students and Wellness Card holders.
