Politics is in the air: Congressman visits class, profs analyze campaign


As the 2004 election moves into its final stretch, Congressman Sam Farr visits a politics class and encourages students to vote, and professors reflect on where things stand now that the debates are over. Politics professors Daniel Wirls and Michael Brown predict voter turnout will be higher than it has been for recent elections. Research partnership to focus on 'artificial retina'

Millions of people blinded by retinal diseases could be helped by a new research partnership involving three universities--including UCSC. The universities, as well as five Department of Energy national laboratories and a private company, have signed agreements to form a partnership in an effort to speed the design and development of an artificial retina. Professor of electrical engineering Wentai Liu, right, is leading UCSC's participation in the project. [More]
