Meeting on sustainability and campus planning to be broadcast

The Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) will broadcast a meeting on the topic of sustainability and campus planning on October 20 during the society's conference at UCSC. Interested members of the campus community are invited by Physical Plant director Ilse Kolbus to attend the broadcast from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Dawn Room at the UCSC Inn.

Titled "Sustainable Building & Design on Campus--Building a Restorative Education Environment," the meeting is aimed at architects, campus planners, campus architects, higher education administrators, consultants, program planners, and others who are responsible for facilities, building, sustainability, and campus planning.

Discussion will include:

  • What makes buildings environmentally responsible and restorative?
  • What is a living and restorative building and how are they different from a traditional industry standard building?
  • How do buildings teach? -Various approaches to building a green building
  • Team building and collaboration in the service of restorative and pedagogical building
  • What we've learned about budgeting for a green building, and the cost differences between various levels and types of green projects
  • Outstanding examples of green campus projects that inspire and teach
