New academic year under way; classes start on Thursday

Students began moving into on-campus housing on Thursday, ushering in the new academic year. Caroline Casey (right), a freshman from Oakland who applied to UCSC as a biology major, makes her way to her new home—a double room at Oakes College. Casey will have a few days to get her room in order, as fall-quarter instruction doesn't begin until Thursday, September 23. [More]

New building is a big boost for engineering at UCSC

Completion of the Engineering 2 Building this summer has added 150,000 square feet of new office, laboratory, and classroom space on campus, primarily for use by the Baskin School of Engineering. The new building "provides quality spaces for further development of research programs and adequate space for our staff organizations," said Engineering Dean Steve Kang. [More]
