UCSC staff attend leadership institute
UCSC sent 14 staff members to the first UC Leadership Institute,
held May 15-17 in San Diego. The program, sponsored by the Office
of the President, was designed to help equip UC managers with
the skills and knowledge to be effective managers and leaders
within the UC system.
The program highlighted many of UC's senior leaders as keynote
speakers, including Professor Martin M. Chemers, who spoke on
"Heavy Mettle: The Role of Confidence and Optimism in Leadership
Effectiveness." The program agenda and presentations are

UCSC attendees were Michael Barnes, of Admissions; Deana Slater,
Kent Bailey, Margaret Collins, and Michael Yamauchi-Gleason,
of CUHS; Buddy Morris, of EH&S; John Hammond and Patrick
LeCuyer, of ITS; Lai-Ying Hsiung, of the University Library;
Peter McMillan, of BAS; Jesse Magana, of Physical Plant; Ronaldo
Ramirez and Jim Burns, of University Relations; and Rafael Granados,
of UCCP
The attendees were selected by a campus committee that included
Lisa Rose, Karen Eckert, Mark Cianca, Marie Logan, Jean Marie
Scott, Ciel Benedetto, and Barbara Perman.
