UCSC's Brooke Miller wins cycling championship

Brooke Miller, a graduate student in biology at UCSC, won the Division I Road Race at the Collegiate National Cycling Championships May 14-15 in Lawrence, Kansas. She competed against a strong field, including a number of professionals. Brooke told Kevin "Skippy" Givens, supervisor of intramural and sports clubs, that she knew she was in for a tough race when all the women around her had their signatures emblazoned on their bikes indicating a pro rider with full sponsorship. "They were in the end no match for Brooke, though," Givens said.
