Slug Bike Festival part of Bike to Work Week
activities
The 18th annual spring Bike
to Work Week is May 15-22. There are many new activities
this year, including a Rail and Trail Day May 22, a Giant BMX
show May 15 at the Bicycle Trip, and a Slug Bike Festival on
May 19, Bike to Work Day. See full
schedule of events.
The
Slug Bike Festival will take place at Quarry Plaza (Bay Tree
Plaza) from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and feature tips on road
safety and maintenance, information tables from local on- and
off-campus bicycle organizations, music, and a raffle. There
will be opportunities to license your bike and find buddies
to improve your commute.
Also on May 19, Bike to Work Day, from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. there
will be free
breakfasts for those who bicycle to work or school at places
all over the county, including three sites on campus: the Womens
Center, "top of bike path" (sponsored by cycling team),
and Quarry Plaza (sponsored by the Bike Co-op).
The Slug Bike Festival is sponsored by Bike 2 Work/Ecology
Action, Beckmann's Old World Bakery, Spokesman, Another Bike
Shop, Sprockets, UCSC Bike Co-op, UCSC OPERS, and UCSC TAPS.
Come help support cycling as a viable transportation alternative.
It's good for your health, the environment, and UCSC.
