Second Harvest donations The
Food Bank provides food to 120 local agencies serving more than 45,000
people every month, 45 percent of whom are children. For every dollar
donated, Second Harvest is able to distribute more than $10 worth of food.
A $15 cash donation provides over 63 meals to hungry families. The drive concludes on December 17, when a Metro bus at the base of campus
will be loaded with the donations. Bookstore has faculty and staff holiday appreciation day Dec. 17 Faculty and staff are invited to the Bay Tree Bookstore's holiday appreciation
day on Wednesday, December 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. General books
and gift books will be 20 percent off on that day for faculty and staff
only. (The discount excludes all sale items.) There will also be a 20
percent discount on all apparel, gift items, plush items, ornaments, and

and www.ucop.edu/acadadv/acadpers/apm/review.html UC receives $400,000 to expand successful math and science summer school The University of California has been awarded a $400,000 grant by the
Toyota USA Foundation to expand its California State Summer School for
Mathematics and Science program (COSMOS) to a fourth UC campus. The funding will cover 50 percent of the planning costs to establish
a new site, and half of the operating costs of the monthlong summer school's
first year of operation. The university has yet to determine which of its campuses will host the
new summer school program, which is expected to be in place for students
in 2005. Last summer, about 450 high-achieving students entering the 9th
to 12th grades took part in COSMOS's residential program at UC Irvine,
UC Santa Cruz, and UC Davis. See full text of University of California press
release. First Night Santa Cruz looking for volunteers With two weeks left until the big 10th anniversary return of First Night
Santa Cruz, there is still a long way to go to toward the full 400 volunteers
needed to ensure First Night's success. If you haven't yet signed up to
be a volunteer, please consider it now. . . and encourage your friends,
family, and neighbors to participate too. Volunteer forms are available

on Committees web site (http://sua.ucsc.edu/scoc). Sale of See's chocolate bars benefits Women at Work Retreat Scholarship Fund See's chocolate bars are on sale across campus. The bars come in four flavors: milk chocolate, milk chocolate with almonds, milk chocolate with toffee nuggets, and dark chocolate with almonds. These delicious stocking stuffers are a bargain at $1.50 per bar. All proceeds go to support the Women at Work Retreat Scholarship Fund. contact Kelly Gardner at kgardner@ucsc.edu. Wellness Center offers limited December hours The Wellness Center will be open on a reduced schedule until the winter
campus closure. The schedule is as follows: Winter campus closure begins December 24 The campus will be closed from Wednesday, December 24, through Thursday,
January 1, nine days in all. Four days are scheduled holidays (December
24, 25, 31, and January 1), two days are weekend days, and the remaining
three days (December 26, 29, and 30) are "normal" workdays. To cover "normal" workdays, staff employees have the option
of using vacation, compensatory time off, or leave without pay. Employees
without sufficient accumulated vacation are allowed to use up to three
days of vacation leave prior to actual accrual. See Staff

The project will consist of three buildings located at the corner of McLaughlin and Hagar Drives on what is now a parking lot northwest of Cowell College.
