Visitors to the UCSC Arboretum can count on aerial acrobatics galore for the Arboretum's annual Hummingbird Day festival on Saturday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Hummingbird Day will feature special programs for adults and children, including tours of the garden, slide shows, an art show, and children's crafts and stories (see detailed schedule of activities). Hummingbird tours will be led by David Suddjian, wildlife biologist and leader of the annual Santa Cruz County Christmas bird count, and Tonya Haff, curator of UCSC's Natural History Museum. Stephen McCabe, coordinator of research and education at the Arboretum, will lead a tour on the Hummingbird Trail highlighting plants that attract hummingbirds.

The art show, "Hummingbirds and Their World," features art and illustrations selected by Ann Caudle, coordinator of the Science Illustration Program, and Arboretum director Dan Harder. This exhibit will be held in the Horticulture II Building. See examples of hummingbird art on display.

Submit your budget ideas to the Executive Budget Committee anonymously

A campuswide financial and budget review process is now under way under the direction of the Executive Budget Committee (EBC). Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor John Simpson has expressed his "belief that good ideas will come from all parts of our organization, not just from a select few."

The EBC has developed a web site for confidentially submitting thoughts and expertise on any topic within the purview of the committee and its three subcommittees--Policies, Procedures and Practices; Academic Instruction and Research; and Revenue Generation. More information on the committees

The EBC was appointed by Chancellor M.R.C. Greenwood to serve as an advisory body to herself and Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor Simpson on budget issues and priorities; the EBC also provides oversight and coordination for the development and implementation of campus budget strategies.
