Making the News

The dedication of the new National Marine Fisheries Service laboratory next to Long Marine Lab was covered by KION (Ch. 46), KSBW (Ch. 8), KSCO radio, the San Jose Mercury News, and the Santa Cruz Sentinel. Among those featured in the coverage were Chancellor M.R.C. Greenwood and Gary Griggs, director of the Institute of Marine Sciences.

New Teacher Center director Ellen Moir was quoted in a San Jose Mercury News opinion column about the shortage of teachers.

Mary Silver, professor of ocean sciences, was featured in an article in Coast Weekly about a bloom of toxin-producing algae in Monterey Bay last month.

UCSC dominated the Santa Cruz Sentinel's garden page recently. The page featured a story about the Center for Agroecology's annual Harvest Festival, a profile of Dirty Girl Produce, which is owned by graduates of the Farm's Apprenticeship Progaram, and a mention in Kathy Kreiger's column about Pacific Horticulture's coverage of Arboretum folk Brett Hall and Ray Collett. The paper also announced the Arboretum's annual fall plant sale.
