Ferlinghetti to give poetry reading May 24 Lawrence Ferlinghetti, one of the most important poets of the Beat movement, will be reading from his works at the Rio Theater in Santa Cruz in a free event sponsored by the UCSC Friends of the Library. Ferlinghetti remains the proprietor of San Francisco's City Lights Bookstore, once a celebrated mecca for Beat writers and artists. The Rio Theater reading is open to the public.
